Success Cannot be Achieved by Incident
Getting a scholarship to study abroad is one of the 5 goals I had set since I was pursuing my Bachelor Degree in year 2 and it is the final goal that I have achieved thus far. I have applied for Australia Awards Scholarship for two years and ultimately got offered an Australia Awards Scholarship for Intake 2018. It is the beginning of exciting chapter in both my professional and personal life. Many friends said congratulation to me. Before the releasing of the result, I got many wishes and many times of the wishes is ‘good luck to you with the result’. While acknowledging that it is a normal word showing good heart of friends, I bet that this success that I have gotten is not by luck. I remember a phrase which inspires me to try hard to achieve this success is ‘success cannot be achieved by incident’, of course, we have to take action and commit to be successful. This phrase is the words I heard from a kind brother ING Vanni when I met him on 11 July 2017 for reviewing what I prepared for the interview. He is my senior generation in Psychology. He give a big contribution to my success with this scholarship. I really appreciate his kind heart and effort in supporting me literally and spiritually. After meeting and getting his comment on what I prepared for my interview, I found that I need to read a lot more to find other necessary information to support my answers. For example, I have search more about the development issue in Cambodia, the aid program of Australian government to the development of Cambodia and so on. And he also share his experience of academic challenges which gave me ideas of how I can prepare myself to overcome the academic challenges and ready to response to the real interview panel. Besides giving comment, he motivated and gave me good tips for behavioral and mental preparation. He told me how I should behave at the start, during and at the end of the interview which catch interest of the interview panel. He informed me to train my brain to image the moment of the interview and image what I have to behave in that moment. He said ‘fake it until you make it’. Another heart-touched support was the offering of his time, energy and heart in playing role as a panel for a pilot interview. On 25 July 2017, he spent his time after work at the evening to make pilot interviews for me and another friend of mine. He set the time and process just like the real interview. He gave thorough comment to us after the pilot interviews over the speed, time consuming, information and level of feeling confident. That was very helpful because we experience the moment of interview and get advice on specific points we need to improve for our interview. And at the end of the day, he gave spiritual motivation and courage for us. It is his skill. He did it naturally and from his heart. Consequently, it was amazing that we both passed the interview and got offered the provisional wards scholarship. I was very excited to get this positive result. I would like to pay my gratefulness to Brother ING Vanni Who importantly contributed to my success and make my personal goal achieved. He is a good model for me to help other people to achieve success like me.
